Στη σκηνή του 19ου Ireon Music Festival θα ανεβούν το φετινό καλοκαίρι και οι MIKRO, που θα τραγουδήσουν στο Ηραίο της Σάμου στις 7 Αυγούστου, την ίδια ημέρα με τη Μαρίνα Σάτι.
Οι MIKRO δημιουργήθηκαν το 1997 στη Θεσσαλονίκη από τους Νίκο Μπιτζένη [a.k.a Nikonn] (φωνή, synths, programming) και Γιάννη Λευκαδίτη (guitars-bass-sax-synths).
Οι δύο φίλοι είχαν ένα κοινό όραμα για μία ηλεκτρονική μπάντα με αναφορές σε ποπ, ροκ, αλλά και σε πιο εναλλακτικά ακούσματα.
Ο ήχος των MIKRO είναι “πολυμορφικός” και έχει στοιχεία από electronica, big beat, dance, break beat, drum n bass, easy listening, pop, disco και rock, συνδυάζοντας ανδρικά και γυναικεία φωνητικά.
Στο δισκογραφικό τους ξεκίνημά (1998) με την Ηλέκτρα και την Ελίζα στα γυναικεία φωνητικά κυκλοφόρησαν το 1o τους CD single απο την Warner με τίτλο “Σταγόνες” στο οποίο υπάρχουν τα track “Σταγόνες” και “Λάθος Κωδικός”. Στη συνέχεια η σύνθεση άλλαξε με τη Ρία Μαζίνη στα γυναικεία φωνητικά και τον Στέλιο Εμμανουηλίδη στα synths. Η σύνθεση αυτή διήρκησε μέχρι τον Απρίλιο του 2014, όπου η Ρία αντικαταστάθηκε από την τωρινή τραγουδίστρια των MIKRO, Chloe Ann. Ταυτόχρονα αντικαταστάθηκε και ο Στέλιος από τον Χρήστο Ασλανίδη (a.k.a 5irc) στα drums & pads.
Το πρώτο τους single με τίτλο “Σταγόνες” που περιέχει την επιτυχία “Λάθος Κωδικός” έγινε μεγάλη hit στα ραδιόφωνα. Μετά από λίγους μήνες κυκλοφορεί το πρώτο τους album με τίτλο “Το τέλος του κόσμου” που περιέχει τις επιτυχίες “Άσπρη Σοκολάτα” και “Το καλύτερό σου λάθος”. Το 2001 κάνουν το soundtrack της ταινίας “Email” μέσα από το οποίο ξεχωρίζουν τα “Νετρίνο”, “Δωμάτιο” και “Περιστρεφόμενα Κεφάλια” και το 2003 κυκλοφορούν το τρίτο τους album με τίτλο “Μίκρο tronik* πλάσμα” το οποίο περιέχει τις επιτυχίες “Η Σειρά σου” και “Μίκρο tronik* πλάσμα”.
Το 2004 βρίσκει τους MIKRO να ιδρύουν το δικό τους label με όνομα “UNDO Records”, ένα label το οποίο φτιάχτηκε για κυκλοφορίες όχι μόνο των MIKRO αλλά και όλων των φιλικών project και γκρουπ! Στα τέλη του 2004 κυκλοφορεί το 4ο album με τίτλο “180 μοίρες” και συγχρόνως η παλιά τους εταιρεία (WARNER) κυκλοφορεί ένα best of.
Οι MIKRO παράλληλα κυκλοφορούν στο internet μία συλλογή από remixes παλιών ελληνικών τραγουδιών εκ των οποίων το “Πες μου μια λέξη” γνωρίζει τεράστια επιτυχία στο ραδιόφωνο. Στη συνέχεια δισκογραφούν το 2006 το album “RESTART” και το 2009 την διπλή κυκλοφορία “UPLOAD” και “DOWNLOAD”. Το πιο πρόσφατο album κυκλοφόρησε το ’14 με τίτλο “New”. Έκτοτε κυκλοφόρησαν 8 singles και ένα album με extended/alternative versions των πιο πετυχημένων τραγουδιών τους με τίτλο “Mikro Re:Works 2019”.
Οι MIKRO έχουν δώσει ξεχωριστά live όπως το support στους Hooverphonic και αργότερα στον Morrissey, όπου στην κυριολεξία έκλεψαν την παράσταση με την ενέργεια που βγάζουν επί σκηνής. Ακολούθησαν διάφορες εμφανίσεις στην Ελλάδα, καθώς και συμμετοχή σε φεστιβάλ. Ξεχώρισε το One day Festival στην Αθήνα, όπου οι MIKRO έπαιξαν live με τους Ladytron, τους Client και τον Andy Fletcher των Depeche Mode. Το Μάρτιο του 2002 βγήκαν εκτός ελληνικών συνόρων, για να δώσουν μια εκπληκτική συναυλία στο Λονδίνο, στο club Cargo, όπου γίνονται τα party του περιοδικού “MIXMAG” (είναι και το στέκι των projects της Ninja Tune). Σ’ έναν τέτοιο χώρο οι MIKRO απέδειξαν ότι ο ήχος τους δεν έχει να ζηλέψει τίποτα απ’ αυτόν του εξωτερικού και απόδειξη ήταν ο ενθουσιασμός του κόσμου, που δεν ήταν στην πλειοψηφία του Έλληνες! Στη συνέχεια, εμφανίζονται τον Απρίλιο του 2004 ξανά στη Μ.Βρετανία (London: Notting Hill’s Arts Club, Coventry: Colosseum, Leicester: Sumo).
Τα live είχαν μεγάλη επιτυχία. Στο Λονδίνο ανάμεσα στους θεατές ήταν και μέλη των Archive που δε σταμάτησαν να χορεύουν στους ρυθμούς των MIKRO!
Οι παραγωγοί ραδιοφώνου, από την άλλη χαίρονται να παίζουν τα κομμάτια τους στις εκπομπές τους: Ο Nick Harcourt, ο άνθρωπος που ανακάλυψε τους Smashing Pumpkins, από τον KCRW, έναν ανεξάρτητο σταθμό στο Los Angeles που προωθεί καινούργιες μουσικές, άκουσε τυχαία το single της “Άσπρης Σοκολάτας”. Από τη στιγμή που ανακάλυψε τους MIKRO άρχισε να παίζει πολύ συχνά στις εκπομπές του κομμάτια από τα album τους.
Μέσα στα 25 χρόνια της πορείας τους οι MIKRO έδωσαν 9 studio album, 2 Best of, 3 soundtracks, 1 ακυκλοφόρητο album, πολλά CD singles και digital singles και πάρα πολλά remixes σε έλληνες και ξένους καλλιτέχνες. Το τελευταίο τους album με τίτλο “Σουπερήρωες” κυκλοφόρησε τον Απρίλιο του 2024 με μεγάλη επιτυχία στα ραδιόφωνα.

MIKRO were formed in 1997 in Thessaloniki/Greece by Nick Bitzenis (aka nikonn) and John Lefkaditis.
They are a four member electronic band with electro/pop/indie dance sound, all these under the umbrella of electronic sound and with two vocalists (male / female).
They have released 9 studio albums, 2 soundtracks, a lot of CD and digital singles and remixes.
Their latest album «ΣΟΥΠΕΡΗΡΩΕΣ» was released on April 2024 by UNDO records.
From 1997 until 2024 various members joined MIKRO as Ria Mazini (vocals), Stelios Emmanouilidis (synths), Panos Tolios (drums), George Costopoulos (bass).
The current synthesis of the band are Nick Bitzenis, John Lefkaditis, Chloe Ann and Apostolos Bitzenis.
MIKRO lives are a mix of MIKRO’s songs combined with loops, other songs, remixes and video projections creating an up-tempo interactive party feeling.
Special Gigs
MIKRO have given many exquisite concerts such as their Hooverphonic support act and later on Morrissey, where they literally stole the show with their on-stage energy. The One-day Festival in Athens certainly stood out, where MIKRO played live with Ladytron, Client and Depeche Mode’s Andy Fletcher. In March 2002 they gave an extraordinary concert in London at a club where MIXMAGs parties take place and is the hang-out for Ninja Tunes projects, Cargo. In a place like this, MIKRO proved that their sound has nothing to be jealous of the bands from abroad and was also proved by the audiences enthusiasm, who were not Greek in majority!
Following this response, MIKRO appeared in April 2004 once again in Great Britain (London: Notting Hill’s Art Club, Coventry: Colosseum, Leicester: Sumo). Their concerts were a big hit. Among the spectators in London were members of Archive who didn’t stop dancing at MIKRO’s tunes!
In May 2004 MIKRO appeared live in Nokia’s Totally Board event that took place in Thessaloniki with the band Rasmus. Another special event was in Rhodes where MIKRO performed live with Puressence.
During the Olympic Games in Athens, MIKRO performed successfully and gave 4 concerts at the center of Omonia Square, in front of a cheering crowd. Another memorable event was Nokia Trends, an alternative festival combining music, mobility and multimedia arts, on May 26, 2006. Thousands of young people had the chance to dance to the R&B sounds of Kelis, savour the alternative rockrhythm of The Raveonettes, as well as party to the electro sounds of MIKRO, Mikael Delta and Timo Maas. In June 2006 MIKRO played live with electro band Chicks on speed in Athens during the European Forum.
MIKRO’s Impact
Radio producers are happy to play MIKRO’s tracks on their shows: from Nick Harcourt, the man who discovered Smashing Pumpkins, to KCRW, an independent radio station in Los Angeles who promotes new music, who accidentally happened to listen to the “Aspri Sokolata” single. Since they discovered MIKRO, they started playing their album tracks very often on their shows.
Another impact arrived from America, this time from Mexico. Some producers from an unconventional TV show (a documentary that follows the creators-leads to the various continents) came to Athens during the Olympic Games summer to get exclusive live shots and an interview by MIKRO.
MIKRO also attract advertising producers and television commercials. You can hear MIKRO’s songs and tunes as well as remixes in major TV commercials, such as mobile companies, adds for soft drinks, ice-creams, coffees and chewing gums.
The band have also produced and remixed songs for Greek TV shows and series. They have remixed “24000 Baci”, the well-known Italian song from Adriano Celentano that is on the titles of the series «Safe Sex». A song from their album “180 mires” called “Sahara” has been used for the soundtrack of «Scooby Doo» in American television.
